10 Reasons To Be Excited about Autumn
I have always loved this time of year – it brings with it a sense of freshness, starting over. A time to shed the old skin and reveal a new one. Despite being out of the formal education system I still get that feeling of excitement a new academic year would bring.
Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.
Here’s why I’m excited about September and fall, and why you should be too…
+ Snuggly nights in by candlelight. Whilst I’m not a huge fan of the dark nights, I do love lighting candles all around the house. It just gives such a cosy feel to any room. I stay away from paraffin wax candles which create highly toxic benzene and toluene when burned (both are known carcinogens), and instead turn to soy or beeswax candles that are scented with essential oils.
+ Cosy knits. I much prefer my A/W wardrobe to my summer one. I love wrapping up in soft jumpers and cable knit scarves or huddling up under a herringbone blanket.
+ Hot drinks. Autumn is a time for steaming mugs of tea, hot cacoa or spiced cider.
+ Golden mornings. Not being woken up by harsh sunlight streaming through the window is a blessing. I much prefer the softness of an autumn morning.
+ Autumn recipes. Plum crumble. Butternut squash soup. Hearty stew. See ya later salad.
+ Crunchy leaves underfoot. I’m not the only one who delights in kicking through them like a toddler am I?
+ The smell of Bonfire Night. Whilst I detest fireworks (think of the animals, people!) I do love the smell of smoke in the air and crispy jacket potatoes on the BBQ.
+ Cinnamon. I’m obsessed. Cinnamon candles, cinnamon essential oils, cinnamon in my porridge, cinnamon hot chocolate… you get the picture.
+ Holiday Joy. Oh yes. It may not be Christmas yet but as the days get cooler, I can legitimately start diffusing my favourite ever scent. This gorgeous blend of essential oils contains Siberian Fir, Wild Orange, Clove Bud, Cinnamon Bark, Cassia, Douglas Fir, Nutmeg essential oils and Vanilla Absolute. LOVE.
+ Country pub lunches by a log fire. Not much else needs to be said here.
+ Reading. As the evenings get darker and we spend less time outside, I always find myself curling up with a good book. I read way more at this time of year than any other.
+ Dark nail colours. Yes, the plums and deep reds come out of storage.
